Indian Railway via its Railway Recruitment Boards (RRB) conducts written exam for Senior Section Engineer. The test consists of single stage exam and selection is done through Merit in that. For all those who want to be selected on SSE posts in Railway, here is the syllabus and exam pattern of this exam. To improve chances of qualifying all the stages of recruitment, you should know what type of pattern is there in the paper. What are the stages. Here is RRB SSE Exam Syllabus 2017 and pattern.

RRB SSE Exam Pattern

First you should know the structure of the paper.

  • The written exam consists of Objective type Multiple Choice questions. 
  • A total of 150 questions are given in the paper and the time given is 2 hours. There are two parts in the paper. 

RRB SSE recruitment was held in 2015. Below is the syllabus & Pattern based on that. In 2017, there may be slight change in pattern. We will update this as soon as official notification comes.

Below are the parts:
A. General Ability - 60 questions
These questions are asked from:

  1. General Intelligence and Reasoning
  2. General Awareness
  3. Arithmetic

B. Technical ability / General Science - This section have 90 Questions.
Time: 2 hours
Negative marking: 1/3.
Type of questions: Objective type

Part A - General Ability

1. General Intelligence & Reasoning:-
Word Building, Seating arrangement, Clock, Calender. Similarities and differences, analogy, space visualization / orientation, syllogism, Input-Output, Coding-decoding. Series (Number, Arithmetic, Non verbal), Decision making, visual memory, Direction sense test, Blood relations, arithmetical reasoning and figural classification. Statement & conclusion.

2. Arithmetic:-
Percentage, time and distance / work, profit & loss,  Pipes & Cisterns, Mensuration, Age problems, Algebra,  Interests, Ratio & proportion, Data Interpretation.

3. General Awareness:-
Indian Railway, Budget of Railway, New Technologies & Reform in Indian Railway. Indian - History, Polity, Geography, Economy Current affairs, sports etc.

Part B - Technical Ability / General Science

This includes basic topics of Science of class XII including Physics, Chemistry, Biology.

RRB Technical Ability Syllabus - Basics questions from Subjects of respective branch of candidate.

Civil Engineering Syllabus : General Civil Engineering. Construction/ Structure Engineering and drawing, Estimating, Costing and Valuation & Building Materials, Steel Structures, Hydraulics, Hydrology, Construction, Water requirements, Highway Planning, Traffic Engineering, Surveying, Coordinate system, Mechanics, Soil Mechanics, Structural Analysis, Concrete Structures, Projections, Errors and adjustments, curves, Environmental Engineering, measurements of distance and directions.

Mechanical Engineering Syllabus : Engineering Mechanics, Strength of Materials, Theory of Machines, Kinematics of Machine, Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, Thermodynamics, Power Engineering, Steam Tables, Thermodynamics cycles, Casting, Machining and Machine Tool Operations, Metrology and Inspection etc.

Electrical Engineering :- Electrical Machines, Basics of circuit & Power Electronics. Circuits and Measurement Systems, Signals and Systems,Electrical Machines, Electrical and Electronic Measurements, Analog and Digital Electronics, Power and Control Systems etc.

Electronics Engineering :- Electronic Devices, Energy bands, Signal & Systems, Generation and  recombination of carriers. Basics of Signal & Systems , Control Systems, Junctions, diodes, tunnel, Analog and Digital Circuits, Wireless Communication, Carrier transport in silicon: diffusion current, drift current, mobility, and resistivity. Communication, EMFT.

Computers Engineering Syllabus :- fundamentals of computer, MS Office (word, excel, powerpoint etc.), languages, System programming, Web technology & programming. Information systems, DBMS, Operating systems, Software Engineering, Computer Networks, Database, Algorithms, Network communication.

Instrumentation & Measurement Engineering syllabus : Basics of Measurement Systems, Industrial Instrumentation, Analog / Digital Electronics, Process Instrumentation, Transducers, Circuits, Mechanical Measurement.

Chemical Metallurgical Assistant Syllabus: Basic Concepts of Fuel, Material Science, Polymers, Thermodynamics, Applied Chemistry, Computers, Instrumentation & Measurement, Environment & Pollution control.
